The Twelfth District was long considered to be a quiet, suburban working-class district. Even so, Meidling benefits from various qualities gradually helping the district develop into an up-and- coming hotspot. Meidling has been undergoing a remarkable development for some time now; this has been leaving an indelible mark on the residential market. Excellent transport connections are one such feature with the metro lines U4 and U6 and many light rail and tram lines making the Twelfth District highly accessible despite its location outside the Vienna Beltway. Meidling also has a lot to offer – Meidlinger Hauptstraße is ideal for a relaxed stroll or shop- ping trip, and Meidlinger Markt features a diverse range of tastes together with the new unique Gleis//Garten food hall providing its own range of culinary delights. The district has more than forty parks including Haydnpark, Miep-Gies-Park, and Wilhelmsdorfer Park for recreation. Meidling also benefits from well-known at- tractions such as Schloss Hetzendorf palace and the Theresien- bad indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The increasing popularity of Meidling as a residential district has led to many new projects under development or in planning such as those around the famous Meidlinger Markt and along

Breitenfurter Straße. However, Meidling is also increasingly home to rather more expensive projects. The rise in housing prices has made locations with Biedermeier-style houses highly attractive for loft conversions. The Hetz 49 project on Hetzendorfer Straße, soVie on Schallergasse, and VIVA Hetzendorf on Münchenstraße are currently under development. The district has also seen many changes in urbanisation and climate protection such as VIO PLAZA completed at a prime location in Meidling, which benefits from a top-equipped local shopping centre. The area around Stachegasse is to be trans- formed from industry and commerce alone into a diverse living space as an example of climate-smart urban development. The district development in Meidling is also coming along; the last building plots are being completed in the Wildgarten quarter at Rosenhügel, and the Eichenstraße district has a blend of residen- tial, commercial, retail, and hotel developments planned along the Matzleinsdorfer Platz railway line in a project encompassing a surface area of around 14,500 square metres.
