First vienna residential market report

households in austria Single-family homes are still very popular as a form of housing in Austria, but there has been a clear shift towards smaller household structures for the past several years. An average of 2.17 people lived in each household in 2025. This trend seems set to continue; the number of private households will grow to 4.67 million by 2060 according to forecasts from Statistik Austria, 42.2 of which will be single-person households. These changes and pressing climate issues call for realignment in urban planning.
